THE STORY

When this busy family of four purchased a home just a few blocks away from their previous address, they knew that they immeadiately wanted to renovate and turn the contemporary aesthetic into a more family friendly atmosphere. Functionally, the owner’s entry from the garage needed a total overhaul. Yet, the kitchen just needed a palette change and material upgrades.

THE BEFORE

Dark wood tones dominated this home, while the new owner’s dreamed of bright whites, shades of blue and warmer textures.

LAUNDRY OVERHAUL

What was once and “all-in-one” laundry room, locker storage and owner’s entry, this large room had underutilized square footage and lacked organization.

THE TRANSFORMATION

This newly split mudroom/owner’s entry and butler’s pantry doubled down on both function and storage. The original location of the room made sense, well postioned from the garage it passes by the powder bath as you enter the kitchen.

The new mudroom features ample seating space, drawers for boots and shoes with air vents and a seperated drop zone for parents to put the keys, purse, and other items going in and out of the house.

Designer’s Note

POWDER BATH

The guest bathroom was well located, just off of the new mudroom and behind the kitchen. It just needed an update and some drama to accentuate the 9’-0” ceilings.

Serena & Lily wallpaper was added in a crisp blue pattern, along with a new floating vanity to make the floor space feel larger. The white sink adds contrast with the leathered granite countertops.

KITCHEN

The layout of this kitchen worked fairly well, but the new owner’s didn’t feel like the wood finish, metal doors and contemporary fittings was their style. Since the cabinets were well made, they opted to have them professionally painted in a bold blue paint.

Warmth was added to the space with woven rattan light fixtures, cognac leather and brass stools, and soft golf finishes.

NOT EVERYTHING HAD TO GO.

PANTRY

Now seperated from the mudroom entry area, this walk-through pantry provides ample counter space for the hand mixer and secondary coffee station.

A mix of warm woods, blue and white create an inviting and organized space for the whoe family.

Large format porcelain tiles in a checkerboard pattern were also used througout. This provides a dynamic base to the room, and remains easy to care for.
